I never knew that before and so I looked on the internet and found this to be true. He is a character and has had a fascinating life which I am just putting together now. For more accurate information , when my mother left Jamaica to pave a better life in England he became brokenhearted at the split and took to drinking more for comfort. I think this is the origin of the nick name. Please email or call if you have any questions.

I am also the daughter of White Rum Raymond, and younger half sister to Joan who commented above. A few years ago my Mum returned to Jamaica to see friends and family, and bumped into her old flame at a party. He asked about me and she gave him my telephone number, and he called me. He also sent me some wonderful gifts and wrote me some lovely letters, very poetic. As my sister said above, he is quite a character and I like he, have had a very interesting life.
It gets dark early in the Caribbean, but that doesn't mean people stop moving
Joan has had the pleasure of going out to Jamaica to meet him, but I have never been to Jamaica, and have never met my Father. He sent me a photo of his parents, and other close family at family wedding. Joan has filled me in with some of the family history, and now I know why my children are musically talented. My father has a few original recordings at home….
Raymond Young was loved and respected in the town he lived and died in.

We debarked the cruise ship in Falmouth, Jamaica and hopped on a nice air conditioned van for our 5 hour tour of the island. It was about an hour drive along the coast before our first stop on the tour.

Our first stop on the tour was Our Lady of Perpetual Help. This Roman Catholic church sits on the foundation of the oldest stone church in Jamaica. Construction on that first stone church, Peter Martyr Church, began in but was never completed.
Between and , construction on a new Spanish style church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, took place using only local materials, including the stones from the original church, which were incorporated into the sanctuary. The grounds are beautifully laid out, with a gorgeous red-flower-lined path leading up to the ivy covered church. Once we had covered all the factual stuff, we moved on to the all-important tasting session! We were given samples of a 3 year, Especial, and also a 7 year bottle of Havana Club.
I had to chuckle to myself as the bottles circulated around the table, and how everyone poured that tad extra too much. Next time you pouring yourself a drink, taste the rums straight up and see if you can spot the grassy, dry, and citrus tones of Havana Club 3, the caramel tones of Havana Club Especial, or the coffee tones of Havana Club 7 which is more of a sipping rum, rather than a mixing rum.
